Anthropic's Leaked IPO Docs Reveal $2T Ambition and Deep-Seated AI Fears

Leaked documents from AI firm Anthropic reveal a company targeting a massive $2 trillion valuation, but its own S-1 filing is dominated by an unusually large 80-page section on 'Risk Factors,' including the potential for AI to pose an existential threat to humanity.
Leaked IPO documents from AI powerhouse Anthropic, first reported by Reuters, have pulled back the curtain on a company with staggering ambitions and apparently profound anxieties. While targeting a jaw-dropping $2 trillion valuation, the firm's own S-1 filing dedicates a disproportionate amount of space to the potential dangers of the very technology it's building.
The financials paint a picture of explosive, yet costly, growth. The company's revenue skyrocketed from approximately $400 million in 2024 to a reported $4.6 billion in 2025—a more than tenfold increase. This phenomenal growth, however, comes with a hefty price tag. Anthropic posted a loss of $4.2 billion in 2022 and currently has commitments of $518 billion for cloud infrastructure.
What's raising eyebrows, however, isn't the spending, but the S-1 document's unusual structure. Of the 261-page filing, the "Risk Factors" section comprises 80 pages, nearly a third of the entire document. The business model, by contrast, is covered in just 18 pages. This heavy emphasis on risks, including the explicit mention that "advanced AI could pose a catastrophic or existential risk to humanity," suggests a company grappling with the monumental implications of its work.
The filing also highlights more conventional business risks. A significant 25% of Anthropic's revenue is derived from just two customers, creating a precarious concentration risk. Should one of these key clients pivot to a competitor like OpenAI's GPT models, Google's Gemini, or xAI's Grok, the impact on Anthropic's revenue could be substantial.
The leak places Anthropic, which uses Amazon and Google's cloud platforms, in direct comparison with its primary rival, OpenAI, which is valued at $1 trillion and heavily backed by Microsoft.
This revelation comes as the broader market remains tentative, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq showing little decisive movement. While investors watch for cues from upcoming earnings reports, like Micron's, the Anthropic leak serves as a powerful reminder of the high-stakes, high-risk, high-reward game being played at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence. The question for potential investors is whether the phenomenal growth can outweigh the existential risks the company itself seems so acutely aware of.
